An ocean away

loving you

from a thousand miles

is both a flight

and a fall.

some days

it feels like flying—

all sky,

all wonder,

all stars lighting up

for us.

and then there are days

when the signal dies,

and so do I

a little.

because when you cry,

I can’t hold you.

and when you’re hurting,

my hands

are just pixels

on a screen.

long distance

is a kind of courage—

to keep loving

what you can’t touch,

to believe in something

you can’t hold.

but I do.

god,

I do.
