A different heartbreak

I have loved
friends
like lovers—
trusted them with
my soul
in the soft hours
and the dark ones too.
but no one warns you
how silence can fall
like a blade
between two hearts
that once beat
in the same rhythm.
I grieve them
like ghosts
the living kind—
the ones who walk away
without dying
and never look back.
no poems are written
for this heartbreak,
no songs played
for the friend
who became a stranger
without a war.
just me—
and the ache
of knowing
they once knew me
entirely.
and now
they don’t call.
